We have found that people who are looking into granite countertops have a lot of questions about granite as a material. In order to serve you, we have put together a list of common questions we get about granite and the answers.

Arch City Granite’s Common Questions

  1. Will my cabinets be able to hold the weight of granite? Granite distributes its weight evenly. During our initial measuring process, we take a close look at your cabinets. We have found that almost all cabinets can support a granite countertop.
  2. How can you make certain that your measurements are correct? Simply put, Measuring mistakes come from human error. We eliminate measuring errors because we use a specialized computer aided measuring device. When it comes to cutting your countertop, we upload the precision measurements into our fabrication process to make accurate cuts.
  3. Can I see your fabrication process in action? Yes! If you come down to our St. Louis location, you can watch us transform slabs of natural granite into beautiful countertop masterpieces. Feel free to ask any question you have, because our friendly staff is passionate about natural stone.
  4. I’ve heard I can put a hot pan down on a granite countertop, is that true? Granite can withstand temperatures up to 1,650 degrees. Anything from your stove top or oven is far below that temperature. Your new O’Fallon granite countertop will be able to handle any dish your oven creates.
  5. Will granite need a sealant? Granite is a naturally porous stone. In order to keep it looking its best, your granite countertop will need to be sealed. It is recommended that you reseal your countertop once a year.
  6. I’ve heard that a granite countertop is nearly indestructible, is that true? Definitely not. While granite is extremely durable, it is by no means indestructible. If you drop a heavy pot on the surface, there is a real possibility that you can chip or crack the surface.
